I got "dinged" by Discover Card. I had not used my card in years, probably 5 or 6 years, so when I wanted to do a balance transfer from another card, I called Discover. To me, it was like getting a new card again. What I didn't realize is that they had this "protection plan" on my card. When I finally noticed the charges, I called in to inquire about it. The woman I spoke with advised me not to cancel the plan. I told her it is the nature of my job that I am "technically unemployed" periodically throughout the year. I happened to be "unemployed" at that time. She then put the plan into effect.
I called back a day or two later and told them to cancel. This was never recorded. When I started getting my Discover bill indicating that the plan was indeed in effect, I contacted the CEO of Discover and explained the situation. He said he would investigate, and make an adjustment to my balance.in the meantime, I paid my bill.
I had not heard anything from the CEO in over a month, and another bill came, showing the plan was still in effect. I called him again, and he said they weren't going to make an adjustment to my balance reflecting that I did not authorize the protection plan to begin with, because the plan had been put into effect. He argued in circles, talked over me-not allowing me to explain my side of the situation. I finally hung up on him. I do not know what to do at this point in time. I am frustrated, and feel like my balance is spinning out of control, when I have not made any charges in months on this Discover Card. Please help.
