I completed a loan application for private student loans for bad credit on a reputable website, which Google flagged as being a safe site. This particular site stated that my info would be sent to a group of their preferred lenders to have them compete to offer me a loan. A week later I received a voicemail from Justin Phillips from Kenworth Lending Group-17 West 24th St, New York, NY 10010-866-781-2871 x 515 stating that they managed to get me fully approved for a student loan, but needed to ask me a few questions to finalize the process. I went through the questions and they advised that this is a secured student loans and I would have to put down 9 monthly payments of $177.24 totalling $1595.16 at a 12% apr which would be applied directly to the principal of the loan. They faxed me a copy of the contract and the loan agreement, and it appeared to be legit. The contract stated that after meeting my collatoral payment prerequisite, the funds would be disbursed into my account the next business day. I signed the contract and faxed it back along with a copy of my driver's license. I then called Justin to confirm receipt of the fax and he advised that he has received it and his manager would have to approve everything before he can advise where to send the payment. He called me back about an hour later and said that everything was approved. If I wanted to go through their express pay program I would have to wire the money via money gram to April Webb in Ontarioville Canada. He advised that they use a representative's name because if we were to wire the money to a company we would be charged a business transfer fee. He also advised to contact him back with the reference number and once he inputted the # in the system it would flag accounts payable to process payment of my loan. He assured me that the funds would be available before 5pm the following day. Needless to say I checked my account and there was no deposit. I contacted Justin and he stated that they were having server issues and they are working to correct the problem. Then the next day he stated that my money would be there and to compensate me for my troubles they would enclose a $100 Applebee's gift card in my welcome package that I would receive in 7 days. The next day no money, he flat out told me that he didn't know why, but the manager assured him that the money would be there by midnight as they are expediting the payment. Midnight no money. I became very frustrated because my rent was due and I gave him all the money I had to my name. I am a single mother of 4 trying to get on her feet after recently go through a rough pregnancy with my identical twin boys. He kept trying to pacify me. I did some more research because my preliminary search showed nothing bad about the company name. I found out the common ways that these scams work and I noticed red flags all over the place. I then asked for a refund and he stated that it would take forever for me to get a refund and was rude and nasty. I then called Moneygram in tears and couldn't contain my composure over the phone. They stated that they had not released the funds to April Webb and reversed the payment and I received a full refund. I was very lucky and I thank God for not allowing me to be screwed because I gave them everything I had. PLEASE DO NOT GET A LOAN FROM KENWORTH LENDING GROUP!!! They sound great, their website looks great, they contract looks legit, as well as their business logo, but it's a SCAM!!!
