I won $10,000. The check came 8/12/09 early in the morning. My husband and I decided we are using this money to get us a much needed newer car since ours barely runs. We found a car, we were 90% sure we were going to get it so the dealer was going to hold it for yesterday only. My intentions were to go cash the check for cash at our bank and then go buy the car. 4 years ago I got a check for $13,000 and was able to do this with no problem, but I guess times change.
We talked with the bank manager. How she's the manager, I dont know because she had to keep running to ask tellers questions she should know the answer to. She even said "I don't know anything about the teller world". If you're the manager, how are you going to manage the tellers jobs if you know nothing about them? We explained everything to her about what we're doing with it.
It was just before 2pm when we officially deposited the check in our account. Transactions made before 2pm are usually cleared late that night or the next day (we watch our account closely). She said herself that the money should be available 8/13 or 8/14. If she had not said this, I would not have put down the cash deposit on a car. We had an agreement that we'd pay for the car in full by 8/14 at the latest or we lose our $100 deposit.
Late at night 8/12 our account shows it was deposited AND all of it is available. We were excited because that means we can go get a car today! We check our account this morning just to see exactly how much so we can budget a couple bills and paying the full amount of car insurance. All of a sudden it shows the $10,000 check was deposited and it is NOT pending, but they have a hold in the amount of $4,700 scheduled to be available 8/14, and $5,000 scheduled to be available 8/19.
We went right over to speak with the manager again. Basically we got the whole "i don't care" attitude saying "yep you'll have it all by the 19th". Yea, that's nice but she told us we'd have it within 2 days. What made us real mad was that she didn't say she was sorry for giving us false information and not backing up what she said yesterday. I asked if BoA will pay us the $100 if we lose it due to her false promises. She said no.
We spoke with the dealer. He's going to put it back up for sale tomorrow if we don't have full payment. If it sells, we lose our deposit for "refusing to buy", which I understand because I signed the agreement. We really hope it is still there on the 19th, if it is then our deposit will still count torwards our purchase.
I am also going to find out what her name is (i forgot) and write a complaint to head quarters when I find out the address.
