I was looking online through my checking account to see the date a particular payment had been made. Normally, all the deposits / withdrawals/payments are the ones with which I am familiar. As I scrolled back into my account, I noticed a $12 withdrawal was made by Reservation Rewards several weeks earlier.
My auto insurance company makes monthly debits from my account under a different name but I know what it is. I made no connection to having done business with this company, especially for such a small amount. I started going back in my account and sure enough, another withdrawal had been made for $12 the previous month.
I noted the date was the 20th of the month on each transaction and the 20th of this month was only 3 days away. I called the 800 number listed alongside Reservation Rewards bank transaction and got a very pleasant woman on the phone. It was then I found out that I had unknowingly signed up for a membership to a discount program.
I immediately canceled it and asked for my money to be refunded back into my account. It took about 7 days, but I did get a $24 refund. Now I check my account frequently to look for mysterious actions.
Watch out for this company and others like it, they may be legit in what they do, but if you didn't ask for it, didn't know about it or don't use it, your money is still paying for it. Always call the phone number listed if you are unfamiliar with the name. I was lucky to have found out before much more money was 'given away'.
