Unfair overdraft fees

My problem with BB&t started a couple of weeks ago. I had a check that I deposited and it got returned for NSF, which ok, that was my fault and when something I bought bounced because of this, I didn't have a problem with paying the overdraft fee, however, and I was unaware of this policy, after 6 days they take out another 30 just because you haven't put any money in your account. I was like, well that sucks, but it was a policy I didn't know about, and now I do.

Then the strangest thing happened. I made a deposit of 400, I made sure the deposit was made before 2 so it would go through that day. I got my deposit slip, with the deposit date of the 30th. I then came home and checked, and printed out my account balance to make sure everything was ok, and i used excel spreadsheet, and everything should clear giving me an available balance of 15.43, which, right out of college is what my account looks like for a couple of days before I get paid. Anyway, on the 1st I printed out my account again, and was really shocked that my balance was -89.04. I printed that out to, and I still unsure how this math works out, but everything cleared in the order I expected it to, but there were two overdraft fees 1 for 70 and one for 35 dollars, what was really odd was that there was enough money in my account to pay for not only everything that I expected to clear my account but also 60 of the overdraft fees. So I asked about it, through email and I was told the following, the 400 was "deposited funds unavailable" so when two checks cleared the same day there wasn't enough to cover them, and the rest of the money cleared on the 31st. I immediately started fighting it and calling about it, trying to figure this out and stop it. I finally talked to someone who told me that if it is a non BB&T check, regardless of what time it was deposited it wouldn't clear until the next day. She also very quickly informed me that I was notified of the policy and that it was instituted because of changes with the federal government. She also informed me that there was nothing anyone could do about this, I could fill out a claim, but she basically told me that unless it was a banking error that I would not be refunded my money, and she kept talking about it like the government was making them do it. Also, while all of this was going on another 30 was taken out of my account because another 6 days had past, when I called to get this fee taken care of because I told them that i was not putting any more money in my account until this was settled, because I wasn't sure that I would still be banking with them and the representative said, I can fill out a claim but again it wont do you any good, we are required by the federal government to charge that fee.

When I filed the claim I was told that I would hear from them within 24 to 48 hours. I haven't herd from them yet, but there is a pending "deposit/credit" of 53. I really want to know the math it took to go from $135 (including the 30 overdraft fee for my account being overdrawn for more than 6 days) to $53. What I find frustrating as well is every other bank I bank at, which is Bank of American and Wachovia, I have a an issue with a overdraft fee, and each time, they have immediately credited my account with that fee when I stated that I had a problem with it. So honestly the customer services bit about the we can't do this because of government regulations aggravates me the most.
