I received the letter today, 03/30/09, and immediately took the letter and the check to the bank. The check was written on a JPMorgan Chase account. I happen to use Chase Bank, so they were able to review the account as I sat there. Over 10 checks were cashed for the same amount today and more previously. The funds are in the account, allowing you to cash the check. The problem is that the funds will be discovered to be fake.By then, you have sent these thieves good funds via Money Gram that you will have to pay back to the bank. Even if you just deposit the money in your account, the bank will seize your accounts as someone participating in bank fraud. Do yourself a favor and give the letter to your bank with the check so that they will have evidence or at least shred it and walk away. Ain't no such thing as a free lunch!
