As others reported this month, I too just found out my credit limit was dropped by almost 60% and I found out accidentally by checking my account on line. No notice was given.
All payments have been made on time so there was no reason for this reduction, period. Their canned response is that they are re-evaluating their business and reducing them for everyone. I was told by a friend working in the industry that HSBC rigs it that way. They are terrible.
Also be careful with their hidden fees, monthly fees, protection service charges for services you didn't order, fees to pay them online, fees to pay them by phone, an increased $15 fee to make a payment after 4:30 P.M. The day BEFORE the payment is due, and on and on.
If you pay it down to a zero balance, there is still a monthly fee. Miss paying that fee and you'll get hit with $39 late fee. Close your account and your FICO drops. It's a no win situation. Stay away!
