They buy your old debt that you think is settled, they bought my ATT celluar phone acct they have sent numerous letters with different collection names but the same address. I had settled the acct with ATT through their collections.
I have never spoke with Paliase on the phone, which I advised not to do because they will mark the acct as recently opened (on the date you talk to them).
The phone was stolen and used for drug deals, the phone bill became evidence for the police. I sent ATT the copy of the police report, they told me the acct was settled.
3 years later it appears on my credit report. Isn't there a law against this? I talk to representatives at ATT and they stated the acct was settled, that there is notes in the acct about the stolen phone and recieving copies of the police report. How can the credit reporting agencies take their inquirey? They are obvious not legimate business.
There needs to be legimate reporting of bad credit. Trans, Eqf, Esq need to make companies provide proof and once it appears the debt should have a acct number with the credit reporting agency and a password, if the acct is legimately sold to another collection agency the password goes with the acct. This is something the buying agency needs to verfy before buying up bad debt!!! Julia Denve
