Advanced-fee loan "company" scammed someone I know for $800 Claim To Be In

They claimed to be a loan company and offered a loan for $10,000, but only with an $800 security deposit. When the $800 was sent (to Brampton, Ontario, Canada), they wanted another $2800. They said they'd get the $800 back, but it never came.

Anyone else been scammed by them?
