Complaint / Review
Washington Mutual
They will not back a fraudulent claim I submitted

I contacted Washington Mutuals fraud dept on December 23. I noticed on my receipt (which I had to fish out of the garbage because the merchant refused to give it to me at the time) that I was charged $80.10 for a peanut butter & jelly sandwich, instead of the $7.08 it was supposed to be. It happened at JFK Airport in NY at a vendor called Gourmet on the Fly. The only reason I forgot to check it was my friends flight was arriving so I was in a rush.

When I called, the rep told me the reason I did not see it on my online history yet was because it wasnt pending. Only she could see it. It hadn't been deducted yet. She advised me to close the card, and have a new one sent to me. I was reluctant because it was so close to Christmas-and wouldn't have a card, but agreed because she guaranteed me when the fraudulent charge came through on the old number it would not be paid.

She advised me that Washington Mutual would send me a packet to return to them with all the details I had regarding the charge,

Needless to say... On Dec 29, the charge for 80.10 WAS deducted from my new card by the vendor! I was furious. I called Washington Mutual again, and the new rep told me 'Of course it will jump to the new card'. I asked 'why i was advised to get a new card?'... And she didn't have an answer. They credited back my card for the fraudulant charge on Jan 8, surprisingly not for the $80.10, but for $73.02. That was 80.10 minus what the sandwich DID cost, $7.08. BUT-keep in mind-I havent sent the packet with my proof in yet..

(I didnt receive that packet for over a week!)
So, I send in the packet with all my information on Jan 17.. The receipt and all the numerous emails I sent the food vendor MAR AIR FOODS requesting a refund.

I received a letter from Washington Mutual dated Jan 27 telling me I haven't submitted sufficent evidence to support my claim, so they are deducting the 73.02 from my account, which they did today, I AM LIVID! What other proof do I have than what I sent them??? Think about it... What could you possible buy in a airport terminal from a food vendor for $80.10?!?!?

And why would I go through the hassel if I did spend it? I want to persue this, but do not know how. I plan on taking a ride to this food vendor at JFK & getting my refund, but I am so fustrated with Washington Mutual and feel they shoudn't be allowed to take this so lightly.
