When searching for online applications for universities, we were redirected to several different sites, and this one requested our bank account routing number and bank account number in order to do a credit check. The next day $99.95 was taken from our account as an ACH withdrawl. We ordered nothing, and I did not authorize this withdrawl. We have contacted our bank immediately to file an affidavit that this was unauthorized and once we file our forms they have stated they will re-credit our account for the amount of the withdrawl.
On questioning our bank representative, you cannot even really place a stop payment on this company as their computers are not configured to pick up these fraudulent companies. All the thieves have to do is keep the amount under $100.00 and then for each submission, by changing just one digit in the amount requested, the stop payment will miss the transaction unless the exact amount you requested your stop payment for is what the thieves attempt to take. Otherwise the debit will go through.
