If you are thinking of purchasing this card for yourself or family members or friends, or for any reason - Do not do this!
This card is a complete rip-off and when you are charged monthly fees to maintain the account, fees for withdrawing cash from the card (your money!), you are charged for everything. The goal of this card is to extract money from the cash you put into the card - the con is FEES. Your cash will shrink even if you do not use this card. The money you have in this card can be held up and not available for weeks at a time if any company or business you transact with puts a hold on the card until the purchase you made clears and this can take weeks.
Stay away from this rip-off company. It comes from GE (I think it is General Electric Company who these days must be starving for business given the economy.
If it is GE Good Job in Screwing the Public. This company Green Dot has to be shut down or regulated by the Federal Government. Right now, the company does what it wants and you cannot contact them. You cannot speak to a live operator when you call to complain or try to understand something they did to your money.
I bought a $50.00 card, paid $12.95 to buy this stupid card, then I was charged $5.00 to take some cash out at a bank and if I wait 8 more days, I will be charged another $4.95 each month for maintenance fees. There are many other fees for most things you buy so your cash will dwindle fast. Finding the fee schedule is not easy either, they hide it.
STAY AWAY from this rip-off Green Dot company and all its different types of cards and even the stores participating (Wal-Mart, Walgreens, and CVS should be ashamed to allow this company to give them a cut in the profits. I have shopped at Wal-Mart for years and now I hold negative feelings for Wal-Mart for even offering this rip-off card under their name.
