In I went to H&R Block with a 2006 1040 tax form that I had prepared in order to see if they could do better as far as taxes owed. Mr. Del Bene took all of my forms and other tax information, prepared a new 1040 that was much better than my original one, and gave me a bill. When questioned how he could save me so much money, he said that H&R Block did not make mistakes and that I could have "peace of mind" that H&R Block would represent me at any IRS meeting and would pay for any additional taxes, penalties and interest.
This year, the IRS sent me a form stating that my 2006 return was incorrect and that 3 sources of income (Mr. Del Bene was given all 1099 forms) were not reported. Ms. Sunny Caswell of the Westerly, R.I. Office could not explain why he did this. We could not ask Mr. Del Bene because he had left the company.
I have had to pay additional taxes and interest for 2006. Reprecussions from Ct., R.I. And S.C. Tax forms have not been addressed at this time. I have also had to spend a lot of time: 1. Recalculating my taxes in order to try to find where the mistake was. 2. Meeting with Ms. Caswell. 3. Calling and reporting the problem to the regional office in Fall River, Mass. And the 1-800 national number.
Bottom line: due to the incompetance of their employee and their promises of satisfaction and peace of mind, H&R Block must pay for my additional taxes and interest ($865) and return my tax prep fee ($290). They must also pay any additional taxes, penalties and interest owed to Ct., R.I., s.C.
