A couple days ago I received a letter indicating I had signed up for Chase's Payment Protector Plan for the low rate of $0.69 per $100 of balance. I *never* sign up for anything like this or allow a telemarketer to waste my time, so this was news to me.
I called the number to verify the date and time of the enrollment. They claimed it was over the phone and on Feb 5th. It turns out I was out of town from Feb 3 to Feb 9. How could I have signed up over the phone.
After calling Chase, they gave me a code and another phone number to call from where I could listen to an audio recording of the enrollment call. Of course, this isn't available for 4-6 weeks. We'll see if they can produce this evidence. It doesn't seem likely... Smells like a scam to me.
