Today I received a phone call from Aegis Receivables Management Inc for one of my neighbors. The individual, aptly named James Smith, indicated that he must urgently speak with my neighbor regarding influential financial information that could pose harm to him if not spoken to today. Mr. Smith indicated that the neighbor's phone was either disconnected (which I know it not to be) or that they were unable to dial the neighbor's phone number.
I was not aware of what Aegis was until I did an internet search to find it's a hard-pressed collection agency. Mr. Smith represented this company differently when I pressed for additional information. He actually wanted me to walk my home phone over to my neighbors so he could talk with them! Of course I refused but took the message.
I told this Mr. Smith that I would do this for him this one time (not realizing the nature of the business) but to not call me again. I did ask if this was habitual practice of his company to contact neighbors to find people and he said no.
WATCH OUT! This company will be calling all of your neighbors to find you! I don't even owe this company any money and I was called for my neighbors. Everyone has financial struggles these days with the economy - what a terrible thing to make people out to be deadbeats to their neighbors! These people have to live in this area, and they should be free from having their private financial affairs shared with neighbors because of unethical companies like this.
