This company advertises "free credit report" then tries to con you into paying for their crap service. Usually companies offer a promotion to attract business, and they are up front with their methods. If their product is good, then they win customers, if it is bad, they don't - either way, companies usually have promotional offers to get exposure. Then you have services that suck, and the company knows it. Consumerinfo.com is one of those companies.
What consumerinfo.com does is lure people to their website, barely offering any info about their service by constantly touting their "free" offer. Then they provide an order form that doesn't make any mention of a fee being assessed until the very end, after all the fields are already entered. Even when asking for your credit card info they are deceptive:
"Your card will not be charged during the free trial period. However, valid credit card information is required to establish your account."
Basically this is saying that you must authorize a post-dated charge to your account. No obligation? What do you call having to provide them w / authorization to charge your account? Aren't you obligated to contact them to prevent them from assessing that charge?
When I placed my order, they conveniently had to mail my info. Already, they broke the contract. Whatever hapened to "instant." Then they charged my account. The letter they sent me with my "Private Access Code" was dated Jan. 7. My account was charged on Jan 31.
Since I had not received the information I had registered for, my membership should not have been activated. At least, thats the way it should be - but they conveniently neglected to provide me with an opening date for my "membership" - nor did they make any effort to contact me afterwards.
If consumerinfo.com offered a quality service they wouldn't have to resort to this scam.
I have sent them an email to cancel my account and refund my money. I am also going to call after work, since I cannot afford to wait on hold. I will post an update.
