When the Blue card came out, we canceled our Costco Rewards card to get the 5% cash rebates. Well, it takes spending a lot of money to ever see much of those rebates. Further, the APR bounced up because they considered us "new" customers.
Then they changed the Blue card policies to make even more difficult to see any cash rewards, so we switched back to Costco Rewards. Again, our APR bounced up to their highest rate because we're "new customers."
We have excellent credit and have had one card or another with American Express since 1995, yet the classify us as "new" customers until we've had the card at least one year with no late payments. We've had a card with them for over 10 years with no late payments!
Although they also changed the Costo Rewards policies to make it very difficult to ever see any rewards, we will probably not switch again.
