Ruined my credit even though they were paid off and equiptment returned to them

In 2006 I opened a holistic health and massage therapy office. When I filed for my assumed name permit, I was contacted by a man from USA Bankcard services named Travis Tague. Being the niave person I was, I agreed to accept credit cards and this man set me up with a machine and everything. So I thought.

I paid this man $2500. For a credit card machine and one years' processesing of the payments. I NEVER recieved any of the funds from the cards that were swiped. However my clients accounts were charged or debited.

I cancelled the service. Then suddenly my checking account started recieving a debit from Ladco/Leasing. After several attempts at contacting these people I closed my bank account.

They then contacted me. Explaining that this was a lease payment on my credit card processing equiptment (I thought I had paid for up front). After repeated phone calls they finally faxed me a copy of a contract (60 months noncancellable) that I had supposedly signed. (NOT my signature on the document) It contained all my correct information. SSN, account numbers, ect.

I finally agreed to send them a check for the contract amount. (a little over $1500.) if they would just leave me alone. I sent the check along with the equiptment to their address in California. Situation resolved. So I thought.

I recently checked my credit report. They have placed information in my credit report that my account is in default and in collections. I disputed the report and they verified it. So there it remains on my credt report.

Funny how a company that I never heard of is able to do this and I have no recourse.
