This mortgage company charged me a late fee for a payment received way before the deadline date. Not once, but twice. They claim (in their literature) that mailing a payment to a "payment center" will no delay processing. HA!
I sent in a payment which should have been there on or about the 7th of the month. They cannot charge a late fee unless the payment is received on or after the 12th of the month. They finally showed the acknowledgement of the payment on the 20th of the month! And, of course, they tacked on a huge late fee the following month.
Well... I got smart the following month, sending the payment with U.S. Postal Service confirmation of delivery. The following month, they tried the same shenanigans again! The payment was put into their post office box on the 6th of the month, yet they claimed it was not "received" until the 19th!
So... I phoned their "customer service" line and spoke with someone and they made me FAX them a copy of the confirmation receipt and write a letter requesting that the late fees be refunded. Naturally, they would only admit to having a problem with the second incident, so they never did refund the late fee for the first time they tried this fraudulent rip-off.
