$12.95 was charged to my account by CIC Triple Advantage on a monthly basis from February to October a total of $116.55, for a service that I did not utilize. I called CIC Triple Advantage (877-481-6825) to learn that the charges were a result of me utilizing freecreditreport.com. According to the person that I spoke with at CIC Triple Advantage when I registered for freecreditreport.com, I was obligated to cancel the triple advantage service within a certain number of days of registering to prevent the recurring charges. I did not know this. Please note, after the initial truly free credit report, I did not access this website. The records at CIC Triple Advantage should clearly show this.
When I asked what I needed to do to discontinue the charges, I was told that I had to log on to freecreditreport.com to discontinue the triple advantage service. I had not accessed the website in such a long time that my access had to be reset. I asked the person on the telephone if I could have the charges reversed for the time that I had not used the service. She would not reverse the charges. This is from an organization that calls itself FreeCreditReport.com.
I am still working on getting the $116.55. I have sent complaints to the Federal Trade Commission and to the California Attorney General. I have also disputed the charges on my credit card. I am waiting for resolution.
