My wife and I purchased a new vehicle and post-dated one of the down payment checks for a specific date. The dealership deposited the check 5 days before the actual date we agreed on, causing us to go negative, and the check was returned. I immediately issued a stop payment on the check to avoid another overdraft charge when it came through a second time, and contacted the dealership to let them know what I was doing. I asked them why they deposited the check early and they said that the date on the check was too far out and they had to deposit it, without letting us know!
They said don't worry about it, when the the check comes back someone will call you to make arrangments.
The next call we get is from some rude idiot punk named Brian Rogers at CROSS CHECK, who, like most collection cowards on the other end of the phone and in the safety of their office several counties away, was quick to make threats with jail time if we didn't pay up. I attempted to explain the situation to his empty head, but he kept talking over me.
I finally told him I would make a $500.00 payment and pay the rest later. Due to an automatic payroll issue, I was only able to make a $300.00 payment, which I did through Western Union. I called back and gave them the confirmation number and the amount, and explained why I couldn't make the $500.00 payment. The rep said that Brian would call back to make further arrangements. WELL, Brian did call back. He called my job, my wife's job, the house, our cell (all of which we of course recorded) making threats about our credit (couldn't really get much worse anyway!) and said if we did not pay we were going to jail. I wonder what Law Enforcement Agency Brian Rogers works for, or where he received his law degree to have such a keen eye on the law. After all, he did accept my partial payment, which is all CROSS CHECK will ever get from me.
Based on my conversation today with another collection wimp by the name of Ray Calhoun, I am going back to the dealership and giving them the money. I'll let them deal with the pansy-ass collection tough guys!
It's amazing to me that people like this exist in this day and age. If they would have shown a little respect, the matter would be resolved. I didn't tell them to cover my check. I would love to give these guys a lesson in customer service, among other things!
