HSBC credit card be warned

I have a Menards Big card. They do their credit cards through HSBC. I had one last payment on the card to pay off a purchase I made under the 6 month program offered by Menards.

I pride myself on paying my bills on time.

I was surprised to get an email two days ago telling me that my bill for February was past due.

I immediately checked with my bank because I knew I had sent HSBC a check. I showed that they cashed my check two days after I sent it in, but, did not apply it to my account.

So, I called the customer service at HSBC to investigate.

They told me that I had to send them proof that they cashed my check, my account number, and my phone number. They gave me a dept. To fax to called "correspondence". So, I faxed all the info to them. I asked them to verify that they received my fax, and so far, I have heard nothing. When I questioned a customer service agent as to why they could not verify that they received my fax, he told me that the people in "Correspondence" are not allowed to be contacted or call customers. He aslo told me that it would take 6 to 7 days to correct this issue. I told them this was unacceptable. From my point of view, I made my payment on time, they cashed my check so they have my money, and then to top it all off they charged me a late charge!

To me, this is the same thing as theft. I don't care if they get a lot of mail every day, if they make a mistake, they need to fix it immediately. Do you think if my payment was one day late that they wouldn't charge me a late charge? I have spent over 3 hours dealing with them and still have no resolution to this. They ask me to be patient and assure me that they will take care of this and refund the late charge. I will believe it when I see it. Also, who compensates me for all my time and trouble for their stupid mistake? God only knows where they applied my payment. All I know is if I don't get a resolution and an apology from them within 6 to 7 days, I will contact my lawyer. I hope no one else has to go through this nightmare, but, I did want to share this info with people to let them know how bad their customer service really is. My suggestion, if you want to purchase something from a retail establishment that uses HSBC as their financing company, go somewhere else. It's not worth the time and hassle.
