On Tuesday February 26th @ 5:46pm I deposited a check issued by the State of Pennsylvania into Wachovia bank. I deposited $6400 of a check that was a little over $6500 (leaving me with $100 and change). On the next day I checked to see if my funds were in my account. Nope, not there. Then when I called customer service they said if the funds were deposited after 2pm, then they would be in my account on Thursday. Ok, I'll check on Thursday.
This morning, Thursday, check the account. Well now the amount is there but on HOLD! I called customer service and they tell me that any check over $3000 is automatically put on hold. And not only that, but it is on hold for 9 days! No one told me that when I deposited it, I told the customer service rep. Well they said, it's in your paperwork. I can't do anything for you. I asked to speak to a higher up, but they said there was no one to speak to, but perhaps the branch manager could help.
I go directly to the bank. It's 8:30am but they don't open until 10am.in the meanwhile, my mother deposits $100 in cash at a Wachovia bank in NJ (I'm in PA). When I look at it online, it's not available yet... What! Cash isn't available. Now I'm livid.
So I go back to the branch (which is in the Giant in Morrisville PA) and talk to the teller manager. Oh and I did find my paperwork, which said my funds should be available next day for and I quote 'State and local government checks (state (s) in which bank is located only) payable to you'. Ok, my check was from PA, the bank is in PA and it was payable to me. They did have a caveat that said 'However, you must request next day availability for these items at your local banking office by using a special form PROVIDED BY THE BANK'. No one gave me a form. No one told me I needed a DAMN form. And they further say, 'Otherwise, availability of these items is based on whether the check is considered local or non-local'. Is Harrisburg local? Who knows.
Anyway, the teller manager comes back and tells me he can get it down to a 5 day hold, but that's the best he can do. What is this, deal or no deal! I mention the form they should have given me and he says well if you filled it out the money would be available. Really, of course it would, but no-one told me about the damn form. And the other item that is on their paperwork indicates that if they will hold an item longer than normal, they will notify you. I had no notification.
Finally, out of frustration, I ask for all $ in my account, including the $ from my mom. I also say I will back on Monday to close my account. I made the teller manager give me a note to state they would be available. He was actually very nice and I could tell he was doing the best he could.
Moral of the story is... Don't bank with wachovia... They can't even follow their own rules!
