Received a letter from CBCS stating I owed money for using HFN Southwestern Bell in 2000. Southwestern Bell does not provide service in my area and still does not. When I challenged them, they hung up on me-2x. There is no record of a collection or use of Southwestern Bell on my credit report. The told me to send a dispute letter with copies of (2) forms of ID and 3 current bills.
This is obviouslly a blatant attempt to gather additional information on unsuspecting pigeons. I can only imagine that people will settle with them to avoid what they perceive as potential damage to their credit history. From what I gathered they have little to know personal information on me, thus I do not feel there is any danger in ignoring this request.
Please be aware of this tactic to strong arm you into settling for a service you never received.
