Wounded in Iraq and then again by AAFES

After being wounded in Iraq, getting out of the Army after 21 years of service, and trying for the past two years to readjust to the civilain way of things. Life has been difficult.

So much so that since getting out, I lost my house, couldn't make the house payment, had high levels of difficulty in finding employment, was even FIRED from AT&T for writing the word "PUTZ" (Anger issues after Iraq I suppose, that and spending 6 hours on a job cleaning up some other guy's mess), I have had to relocate twice for employment, lived in my car for awhile, been robbed once... Yup a good ole time.

But for the last 8-9 months things have been looking up. I was able to stay in touch with AAFES in regards to my account with them. I was making regular payments, in fact I have been able to bring my balance from over $5000.00 down to $1335.00 within the last 6 months.

I contacted AAFES today to check on my balance and to make another payment. Only to find out that they have turned my account over to a collections agency (OSI) that has tacked on an additonal $360.00 in fees and I was informed that the interest rate is through the roof.

I do not understand. Why, if AAFES was well aware of my payments, contact and efforts to make good on my debt. Would AAFES then turn the account over to collections? I have contacted AAFES to ask that they assist with this.

I'm not one to snivel or cry in my soup. But I tell ya... Getting booted in the pants by the same folks who say that they are there to support ya gets old after awhile and you start to get a little cranky when your trying to do the right thing.
