Allstate recently moved 244,000 so called "high risk" Texas auto policies into thier unregulated Allstate "County" entity and raised the rates sky high.
Case in point. The 3 drivers in my family had been involved in 4 accidents the past 3 years, 3 of which were not our fault and damages were paid by the other driver. This included cases where the other driver ran a red light or hit us from behind... Types of accidents which are difficult to prevent. Having this many accidents in a short period of time is also highly unusual for us. Over nearly 60 years of combined driving experience, the 3 drivers had only had 2 "at fault" accidents, both of which were minor. The 4th accident of the 4 mentioned above cost Allstate $1428 total.
Imagine the shock when Allstate suddenly (note that they had renewed twice after any accidents) moved us into the unregulated entity and raised our rates by $2200 or approximately 120%. This was the second shock from Allstate in 6 months. They raised my homeowner's policy by 25% despite the fact that I never had a claim.
The good news should this happen to you is that plenty of other insurance companies out there will insure you for less. I got a policy that was almost as cheap as my original Allstate policy. Shop around, but watch these clowns if you live in Texas.
