Discover randomly raises minimum payment Various

I trasnferred my balance this past summer to Discover card for a small transfer fee and 0% for one year. I have paid every payment on time. My payment due has been about $150 and I pay $160. Everything was fine until I opened up my statement for December and my minimum paymet was $276. I called them immediatly to find out why as I had been on time in the past.
I was told by their representative that they raised my minimum since most of my balance is a transfered balance. Basically they are not making any money off of me.

They told me that they notified me of this the month before and I had the option of halting this increase then but since I was calling they would lower it back to the original. Then they asked if I would be able to pay the $276 this month. I got very upset as this was due the day after Christmas and not to mention I just got married and this was something I was not expecting. They said they would go ahead and ok me to make the minimum payment of $15. I asked where this amount came from and they said this is always their minimum. I stated I would still pay the $160 I usually did but just wanted to make sure I did not get penalized. They said it would be fine.

A few days later I checked my account to see if the minimum due had been lowered and it hadn't. I called again and went throught the whole story again. I was told $15 would be sufficient even though it was not showing that. Needless to say I have sucked it up and paid the $276 as I do not trust ANY credit card company. I have great credit and refuse to have it ruined by some customer service rep who I would never be able to track down again.

All in all, I think this is bad business. If I wanted to pay more on my card every month I would do just that. And to say that they notified me is a lie. This was deceptive and I am sure that other did in fact fall into this trap which created a lot of payment defaults. Good for Discover but just wrong for the consumer!
