All I can say is dealing with this bank is difficult to say the least. I had (notice I said HAD) a account with Regions. My parents had a account there at the same time as I did.
I closed my account in 1993 and when my dad died in 1996 my mom decided it was just easier to maintain her account with them. Well she calls them one day about a issue she was having and they asked her for her ss#, when she gave it to them they said "That is not what we have on file." So since my mom and I had very similiar names she asked me for my ss#... Sure enough they had my ss# attached to her account and I had not banked with them in three years!
My mom went to the bank in person, showed them her social security card, drivers license ect and they said "So sorry for the mix up we will clear this up asap." She took their word that would fix their screw up.
A couple of years ago she has to call about a issue with her account... Guess what they never got our ss#'s straighted out! 12 years after I closed my account they still have my ss# attached to her account!
Then my mom got sick in March. I never had any access to her account at all. If she needed money drawn out she would just give me her atm card and pin number.
My mom had no will, I didn't have power of attorney. Anything. My mom died in May. I emailed regions to ask them how to close her account since she had died.
I can tell you these people do NOT pay attention to their emails. They responded to me as if I were the one with the account needing to be closed. Telling me I could simply call a 1-800 number and do it over the phone. I called their 1-800 number and was told that all I needed to do was go to my moms local bank branch and give them a copy of her death certificate and they would be more than happy to close her account.
Well I did just that and they refused to close her account saying that I needed to get a power of attorney. Excuse me... But if my mom is already dead isn't it a little to late to get one of those or am I missing something?
All I know is you watch someone you love wither away and it seems like everyone wants to give you nothing but HEADACHES about stupid little BS that should be easily taken care of.
Regions did and so did a number of other places that my mom had a account with.
But im through venting... The account is still open... It is overdrawn because they are taking $5.95 a month out for fees due to no deposits being made. Oh well I am so done arguing with stupid people over stupid crap!
Glad I don't bank with them!
