I have had a checking account with Regions Bank for several years that I had my retirement check deposited in each month. It was only $234.99 each month and they started to charge me $10.00 per month on the account because I was not depositing more than $500.00 per month in the account... I went into the Regions Bank at Mims, Fl to close my checking account on Dec. 05 because I could not afford the $10.00 charge each month..
They closed the account for me, took my ATM card and checked the account, they advised me that I had a balance of $15.00 which they gave me in cash.
Then the next day they advised me that a couple of charges totaling $60.00 hit overnight and they also added their overdraft charges and then they said the same $60.00 hit again, so they added more overdraft charges. They said I now owed them $176.00.
I said if I can't afford the $10.00 how could I afford $176.00... I agreeded to pay them the $60.00 for the charges if that would clear up the matter. They advised me that there would still be an outstanding balance and that the conversation was over and that I owe them $176.00 and if I didn't pay them, they would turn it over to collections. The bank mgr was very nasty to me when I told them iI needed to close the account.
