Complaint / Review
Webster Bank
Worst Offender of them all, connecticut

From what I am readin Webster Bank is by far the worst offender and should be considered a consumer threat. Nobody in Webster Banks customer service stable even knows what customer service is. They are hired to squeeze the most money out of the customer as possible.

The biggest complaint I guess would be the excessive service charges. Following a deposit and not having the funds made available I had been assessed an overdraft charge. I called and was citing the FDIC regulations and the agent became upset and remarked how I dared to reference FDIC regulations to her. TMy request to have my service charge reversed was declined with a 'huff' and that is part of it.

The second part of it is that based on the service charge. The $100 made available was not enough to cover my next transaction. So, I am to be charged an overdraft fee to cover the overdraft fee. This is what they do. They assess fees, and compound the fees to pay for the fees.

Also, faced with the knowledge that a complaint I made with the OCC for the same reason was upheld, they still refuse to take this 'little guy's' case in hand and actually dared me to take that avenue if I think it's necessary.

Webster Bank lives on the business of "service fees" more so than any other lending service they have. They have the highest allowable service fees available, and thier practice is to cover lartger checks first so they can set you up for the maximum amount of overdraft charges.

They contribute greatly to the estimated $35,000, 000,000 (yes that's billion) service charge industry.

Stay away! This is not just a crying session, I truely am yet again another victim of 'Oportunistic Crime' practiced by banks, and sadly, through research find that even the OCC sides with the banks for the most part. The OCC's documented suggestions to Federal Banking regulators has always been to award the banks the freedom to gouge the public.
