For the past week, the number 651-251-7654 kept calling my cell phone. I do get a lot of calls that are wrong numbers and after them calling me few times, I called them back to let them know that they possibly might have the wrong number. They answered the phone and I said that they kept calling me and want to let them know that they need to fix the problem. They asked for my number and I gave it to them. Then they said my name. I asked who it was and all the person said "this is Nick"... I do not know any other Nick (other than my brother but he was around me when I spoke to this person).
He would not say what company he was from and would not say anything until I verified my last 4 digits of social security or birthdate. I told him I was not comfortable at all unless I know who the company was. About after 10 minutes of asking questions, he finally said what company he was from and I told him I have never heard of Alliance One and that he sent a letter to my address on the 13th (Haven't gotten it yet since I am on vacation for the next few weeks).. I told my mother to keep an eye for that letter and told her to open it to get more information. From there, he said I co-signed up with someone and that I owed 1529 dollars and the credit company was mbna. I told him I had absolutely no idea what he was talking about. He seemed to have my credit report and had all the information on it. He kept telling me that he was willing to settle for 700 dollars and I told him I refused to settle for something I do not know about. Then I said I had to go (my daughter was crying) and he goes "if you go, the settlement goes. If you do not call back, legal actions may be happen for you"... I still hung up and he is still calling me. After the phone call terday, I went online to get my free credit report. I saw that they put an inquiry on my credit report. There was NOTHING on it that shows what he was talking about. Is this a scam? I do have MBNA cards but those are current and I am paying them on time and plus, it was not the amount he was talking about. What should I do?
