I recently received a letter from this company. They say that they represent DELL financial services but that is a lie. I was recently a victim of identity theft so i filed fraud charges and a fraud alert with the credit bureau.
I find out that i have a few open accounts in my name all of them being default but not mine. It had dell financial listed as one of my averse accounts. Not only have i never gotten a computer from dell but i have never owned a dell. I buy all my computers from ebay.
So it says on the report that the account has been closed by dell financial as a 'Profit and Loss writeoff' which means they wrote off the debt on their taxes therefore they received compensation for it.
The fact that it is not mine is not the problem because if Dell can't collect from the person they should be able to do that. The problem is that now this company claims they own the supposed account and want me to pay them the money owed. Why should someone collect twice for the same debt especially when its not even mine.
I contacted the company and told them what was going on. I guess having a friend as a lawyer and another as a cpa helps because they were speechless and hung up on me. Anyone else who is in this situation should file a complaint against this company as well.
