I got a call at 8:30 in the morning, which I did not answer. They left no voicemail. I called back when I woke up thinking it might be a student loan I applied for, and when I inquired on who they were and why they called me, they hung up!
I got a call a few hours later, and they said
"Is this (my name)?"
I said "Yes"
They said "Were going to be sending your debit card to (my ACTUAL address!!!). Is this correct?"
I ask "What is this for?"
They say, "Are you trying to rebuild your credit? Did you apply for a card"
I say "Well, no, I don't think so."
And they hung up AGAIN!
I get a call around 6:30 pm, where I have the exact conversation as above except I ask the guy if there is a website I can go to, and he says yes - www.americanfinancialcard.net. I tell him I didn't apply for a card, but I have been applying for a lot of student loans lately. Something is up!
I go to the website, and attempt to login using their really easy instructions. It won't let me. So I attempt to register, and it says that pre-registration is "locked". Hmm. Weird.
So I click on "Contact Us" at the bottom of the page, like every website has, and it just refreshes the login page. I click on the 6 other links they have and the same thing happens.
I try opening the link in a new page and it just brought up the same login screen.
I guess I have no way of knowing anything about these people, since if you ask questions, they hang up on you, and their website is a total hoax / scam since none of the links works. It seems like it's a dummy web site, maybe even a phishing website.
I think they have to get your permission over the phone to say "yes" for them to send me a debit card. If I don't, they just hang up and try again a few hours later!!! If I say yes, my credit will probably have something really bad happen!
How can I get my phone number off their list? And how can I get them shut down? This is the first time anything like this has happened to me. It's crazy!
