Twenty nine years ago my mother (who lives in NM) borrowed money for a home through HUD at a fixed interest rate for 30 years. Today, approximately 1 year until my mothers hard work should pay off in home ownership and achievement of the American dream, I get a call from her saying that she cannot pay her mortgage.
Upon calling Ocwen to pay the balance, I found that she owes not only her payment, but about $4,000 in "fees." Upon further investigation, I find out that these "fees" seem not only made-up, but that they are getting added to the principle. Our family believed we were about to pay off the house completely, but now OCWEN has stated we owe thousands more.
My mother has struggled as a single mom to make her mortgage payments and we believed all our struggles were about to "pay off." Sadly, according to OCWEN, they would like to gut my mother a little longer for every penny she has worked so desperately for.
I asked for an itemized statement from OCWEN and they have yet to provide us a history of her payments. We will work to get all of this cleared up for my mother and find all of the answers to our questions. As a single low-income mom, it is sad to learn my mother has been robbed and stolen from all these years.
