I recently received a letter in the mail from afni collections. I called the toll free phone number on the letter to see what this was all about since I haven't had Charter Communications Cable in years. They told me that I owed $200 for services that I received back in 1992-1994. That was 15 years ago. Come on, who keeps reciepts for that long?
I felt that something was really fishy about this bill and wanted to get to the bottom of it since I am working on repairing my credit and didn't want this on my credit report.
I spoke to my parents about it to see what they thought. They told me that it was too old and I didn't have to pay it.
The sad thing about this whole situation is that they got me once before and I did sent them money since they had all of the information from where I lived at that time and so on.
When I spoke with them on the phone and told them that I am going to dispute this matter. They told me that I needed to send them a copy of a bill or something with my name and my address on it from where I lived 15 years ago, a copy of my drivers license, and a copy of my SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER!!!
Of course, I wasn't going to send them a copy of these things they asked for. Who requests a copy of your social security number. So I figured that it was a scam. I went to their website and then started reading all of the reports of other people that they tried to get money from.
This is wrong and needs to be stopped. I would like to take further action to get them back, but don't know what to do. I'm just glad that I didn't get suckered into their B.S. Again.
