On early morning 12/23/06 we noticed a deduction in 3 BOA checking accounts.
Balances were ZEROED out.
Small buisness account
Personal JOint account
Student checking account.
A total of about $800.00
When calling the bank of course conveniently they said the dept. I needed to speak with would not be back in until 12/26/06.
I was able to learn that this was due to a delinquent credit card I had with them.
At that time I did have documentation from BOA that they were going to write the account off as bad debt AT THE END OF THE MONTH.
The horrific thing about the whole ordeal is on 12/22 the student checking had over 400.00 balance. My daughter had used her "debit" card earlier on 12/22 with all charges going through approved. On 12/22 at 3pm our bank record showed her then with a balance of 125.00.
When we awoke early Sat. 12/23 these BOA deductions were posted/settled, showing 12/22/06 on all 3 accounts.
By the time I was able to talk to a "person" the next Tue. 12/26/06, I really didnt get much help other than an explanation of this was a "last ditch effort"... They never have offered an acceptable answer to the letter that stated I had until the end of the month.
The rep (Anna) was to have the office manager call me back. She did mention I should have also received a "priority mailer" which I had NOT but later that same day, 12/26 it arrived.
This only made me MORE FURIOUS! The priority mailer (with BOA letterhead) arrives 12/26 and states it is giving me until 12/27/06 to contact them or the account will be written off, or sold to a third party collection agency.
I once again call back (at that point still had not talked to Duane, the manager) This time speaking with Lewis he basically told me I needed to speak with Duane. He also really did not give an answer as to WHY I have the BOA letter STATING A DATE THAT HAS'NT EVEN ARRIVED YET... BUT YOU'VE ALREADY ZEROED OUT 3 SEPERATE CHECKING ACCOUNTS!!!
This is still just unbelievable.
This rep. Even told me "my account is now current" and my next payment would be due Jan. 19,07. Amazing, as the acct. Is of course CLOSED!
The previous rep. Flat out told me they were trying to get whatever and all monies they could BEFORE writing the account "off"
Finally on 12/28/06 I call back and finally able to speak with Duane, BUT OF COURSE, he gives me no acceptable explanation as to WHY I receive a letter with a DATE that has not even arrived yet. You ZEROED all accounts OUT, 5 days previous to the date of the letter.
No answer from him and he suggested I go see a branch manager... They can help me.
Of course by 12/28 BOA proceeded to atatch several NSF "fees" spanned across those 3 accounts. Funny how debits were deducted from balances... Then they disappeared and RE-appeared IN RED. Their deductions that ZEROED out the accounts were debited/posted/settled, ON 12/22/06.
Needless to say, numerous charges added in. Some for 19.00 each and some for 33.00 each. One example, a debit to Taco Bell for 7.00 got charged 33.00 NSF fee.
At the end of the day, its my word against theirs about how, when those debits DID actually occur. Strange to me as well this has NEVER happened before.
Ive been a customer of BOA since 1990.17 years of doing banking at one bank.
I never once denied owing the CC debt but this is about as LOW as you can go when you send documentation WITH AN ACTUAL NUMBERED DATE... KNOWINGGG full well you've cleaned out all accounts and then FAIL to give an acceptable answer to the customer? Its unreal and its unheard of!
The asst. Branch manager explained that they ARE seperate entities: Banking/Mortgage/Credit Card. But in my case that doesnt help much because guess what? They can access it all.
She "shook her head" when reading the letter with the date of 12/27 on it and then confirmed all monies deducted 12/22.
Its similar to receiving a "disconnect notice" from your electric company. You have until 12/27/06 to contact us to make payment arrangements OR your service will be CUTOFF. This is pretty simple people... And that would NOT give that utility company the RIGHT to disconnect your service on 12/22 now would it? AND, if for some reason it was a MISTAKE
and they DID disconnect you and I think they would be doing everything possible to reconnect your service, probably issue you some credit for the inconvenience of it all, etc. Etc.
Of course now Ive been charged all those UNnecessary fees and am having a hard time just trying to get a phone number of an immediate supervisor, or district manager or SOMEONE that is above the manager, or office that Ive been dealing with.
Its certainly NOT over yet.
