I will start by saying I pay all my bills and have a clean credit report so this is not an excuse to get out of paying.
In 2000 I rented a dump of an apartment and ended up staying at my boyfriends house most nights. The tenants above and next to me played music till dawn most nights and smoked dope heavily which had a strong odor throughout the complex. No help from management on the problems. Needless to say I wanted out of my lease and left 2 months before my lease expiration.
In 2005 (5 years after) I receive a call from a Richard Koury Law Office about a lawsuit wanting to collect over $1000.00 for breach of contract. I asked for them to send the paperwork.
They found my cell phone number by calling my 80 year old grandfather telling them they were a former employer needing to contact me about benefits. So he gave it to them of course.
For the next 6 months I received 6 letters and a weekley phone call from this office.
The pig of a collector asked me to borrow money from family and/or forward them my tax return to take care of the debt. She was very unprofessional, rude and demanding. I then receive a call from Richard Koury himself. He tells me (no joke) he will have a sheriff come auction off my home if I did not pay him in full. Also he kept asking me about any assets or anybody to borrow the money from. He then assured me he had no problem seeing me in court and that he never loses a case. He was very threatening and just ridiculous. We had been served court papers and felt like we were being stalked literally.
I wrote him a letter offering to pay him $20.00 a month and that he was frivilous and it was a scam.
He sends official wage garnishment papers signed by a judge to my boyfriends office demanding a payment in 10 days or that he will garnish my boyfriends wages for living in my home as part of his rent to me.
We had to write the jerk a check for $1,125.00 and it was a 9 month ordeal. I am thinking wow, this guy did not do much with his career to have to call and threaten people for little money but I guess when you suck from the bottom of society, every dollar counts.
This lawyer had his tricks for sure. I hope anyone reading this learns something. If anyone calls asking for you by your former first and last name DENY THE CALL! It will cost you dearly.
