Mis Information on account balance, extremely rude customer service

I opened an account with GE Money bank in May. Did not receive any statements and so called them myself (Jul 28) to find out the balance. Turns out that I had a late charge on the account already.

Spoke to the representative, she said if I paid my account in full, they would waive the late charge. I instantly logged into my account and paid the entire balance in full. Called her back and she said that she saw the activity. I asked her to close my account which was done.

A week later (Aug 9th) I called to verify that the payment had been posted to my account and was told yes and there was no balance. However a month later (Sep 1st) I got a statement for $31 from GE which included the late fees and a finance charge. I called their CS rep again and he was very un-cooperative. I asked to speak to him manager and was forwarded to a person named " Dawn". She did not even give me a chance to speak.

When I tried to explain to her that I called to verify in Aug regarding the account balance, she raised her voice and told me not to "waste her time" and if I had any other questions. I told her that she needed to mind her tone she hung up on me.

The issue here is not the amount but the extremely un-cooperative customer service to which I was subjected too. What kind of training does GE Money bank provided it associates that they are allowed to hang up on customers who are trying to make a valid point.
