Fifth Third Bank
Excessive fees

I opened my account at Fifth Third Bank because I was required to in order to take out a personal loan. I had only intended to use the account for purposes concerning this loan. Every time I tried to use the account for anything else, I had cronic problems with excessive fees. I would also like to say that I have had an account at Citizens bank for at least 10 years that I use as my regular checking account. I have direct deposit and pay all of my bills out of this account... And have had NO problems.

I recently deposited a large amount of money into my account at Fifth Third that I wanted to keep separate to save for the summer while I would be off work. Well, times got tough and I needed to withdraw all of the money to use for bills. The ATM allowed me to pull of the money out of the account even though I still had pending transactions from the debit card attached to the account. Kind of my fault I guess but why did the ATM machine allow me to withdraw more money than what was available?

So, I called the bank and she informed me that if I brought $23.06 to the bank and deposited it that she would take care of the rest of the fees and close the account for me since I was not happy. The next day she called me to let me know that there had been a miscalculation and I needed to deposit 5 cents, yes... 5 cents, in order to bring my account current so she could close it.

So, I went the next morning to deposit the 5 cents and she wasn't in that day so I left it in an envelope on her desk with a note thanking her for her help. Boy was I wrong. I receive notice from them a couple of weeks later that my account is overdrawn $72! So, I called her and she informed me that since I had brought up the 5 cents the day after I talked to her instead of the same day, there was nothing more she could do to help me.

I guess the thing that bothers me is that it is not money that they were forced to pay out for me because it was overdrawn, it is simply an excess of fees. As far as I am concerned, she did not follow through with what she told me to do and it is a big SCAM!

I would like to see someone put Fifth Third Bank and all of their rude, lousy employees out of business.
