I am not really certain if this is a scam, but the customer service is outsourced. I went to check my checking account balance this evening and saw that there was a charge for $9.95 from some credit report thing... I had to look up the 800 # to figure out who it was.
I then called the # and realized that it was for the Truecreditreport.com service that I had cancelled just days after receiving it in July... I had some man who could barely speak English tell me that I was in the wrong and did not cancel the service. I plainly told him that I had cancelled well within the 30 trial period and wanted my money back right now.
He then proceeded to tell me that I had just accessed my credit report on the 20th of August... I yelled NO! I had not accessed my report since the 20th of July... (today being the 22nd of August)... I told him that I wanted my money back right this instant and that if I didn't get it I would call my atourney and the Better Business Bureau... He did not seem amused and still repeatedly kept telling me that I had not cancelled the service and that I could not get a refund for services not rendered.
I told him that if he didn't get his supervisor on the phone that I was going to call the cops and make a report. I finally got the supervisor and he asked for a cancellation #. I said that I was told that I did not have one as that I was told that I did not need one. When I had called in last month to cancel the service within the free trial period they just said ok, that is all you need... No number, no nothing... I was like ok... Great, that was easy...
No such luck. The guy told me that he was going to credit my account out of courtesy and that I would not be eligible for any more credits from the company. I said make sure it is cancelled and we won't have this problem again!
I had to wait 5 minutes for the credit to go through and I was told that it should be posted back to my account within 24 to 48 hours. I asked what happens if I don't get it by then and he said to call back in with the cancellation #, of which I now have one by the way!
Word of advice would be not to use this crappy service and if you do, I would make darn sure that you get that 4 digit cancellation #. Believe me it is more of a hassle that it is worth.
