Powell Rogers And Speaks
Deceptive credit card settlement agreement scams, treacherous collection company, Bouble-crossing collection company Ripoff

I had a credit card with Applied Bank Card and the card was canceled because I disconnected my home phone. (Apparently the fine print said I had to have a home phone) Because I had no home phone they wanted the balance paid in full. I did not have the money to pay in full so it went into collections.

The account was sent to "Powell Rogers and Speaks." All they did was set up an annoying recording to call my cell phone at all hours. At no time did they identify themselves or left a complete phone number so they could be contacted.

Well I started a new job and I called Applied bank Card so that I could settle my debt with them, which had increase with interest and fees to about $300 more than I actually used. The lady in the collections department was very professional and pleasant. I told her I wanted to pay the bill she told me I could not pay them because they have hired a collections company to collect the balance. She gave me the number and I called Powell Rogers and Speaks. Powell Rogers and Speaks offered to settle the account for just under $400 dollars. I told the guy that when I get my next pay-check I would send the money. He told me "I never intended to pay the debt and I was not going to get away with it." I kindly pointed out to him that I was the one calling regarding my account and if I did not intend to pay I would not be calling. So I hung up on him. Well I called Applied bank card and complained but they again told me I had to pay through Powell Rogers and Speaks.

Again, I called Powell Rogers and Speaks and a woman answered this time her name is Susan Shapiro. I told her I was calling to settle the account and I told her that the settlement offer was $400. She said $500. I told her I was told $400 she told me she would go check to see if they would accept $400. She came back to the phone and said that they would accept the $400. I then asked her if the account would be reported as paid as agreed. She told me yes. I proceeded to give her my checking account number and was told that it would cost me $10 to pay by check. I told her I would mail the payment in she said they did not accept settlement payments my mail. Well my account was charged and the ten dollars taken out and two weeks later a balance of $259 showed up on my credit card as Cross County Bank account sold.

If you are reading this and you are about to make an agreement with Powell Rogers and Speaks DON'T DO IT. They do not keep their word. They will use every scam to collect money. I have no problem paying. If they did not want to settle the account then they should have said so. Then also lied by saying the account was sold on my credit report. The account was not sold it is still with Applied bank Card but they got it back on my credit report by listing it as another bank Cross County Bank (AKA) Applied bank card.

In short if you are in a similar situation make no arrangement agreement/do not get into any type of relationship with powell rogers ans speaks scam collection company.
