Bank of America put a zero at the end of my social security number to "push it through".instead of using my real social security number (as is mandated by law) they put in a fake one b/c they already had my social security number in their system.
I found this out after many representatives put me on hold when they were opening up my account. Finally, one person admitted that in fact they had put a zero at the end of my social and did have an existing account under my correct social.
The account was in existance since 1996, years before I obtained a credit card through them.
I checked my credit, and it was nowhere to be found. A supervisor explained to be that before 9/11, they did not check credit. I would have never known had I not called numerous calls and played representatives off of eachother and gone to multiple banking centers and had it confirmed.
Bank of America has done everything to take away blame. They will not speak to their practice of putting a zero at the end of my social security number.
I talked to supervisor who said it was probebly an illegal immigrant who bought it off the street. She said she would take my social security number off of the account and leave a note for the customer to come in. I asked her to shut down the other account, to which she said no because Ms. Delgado (the felon) had a good banking history and was a valued customer! I asked why I was not given the same treatment since I had my identity stolen. She said "THEY DON"T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING IS WRONG!"
Bank of America has all but blown me off and will not stop making excuses. I wrote to the president and had some this really stupid executive call me and make me sound like it was my fault. And she told me to call the credit companies, who can do nothing b/c Bank of America will not provide me a letter stating that Ms. Delgado was using my social security number.
Beware: Bank of America may have your social security number in their database more than once and you may not know it unless that person messes up your credit or you can catch a look at an associates screen and see them tab through more than your account, like I did.
Bank of America is the WORST bank. I have had problems with them not taking out an automatic payment and then not accepting a manual one, not returning an overpayment on a loan for a month, and giving me a car title that did not belong to me! Also, one person in Bank of America did tell me that illegal immigrants can have accounts through Bank of America and that it was common for them to shuffle information in order to cover this up.
Stay far away from bank of america.
