A friend of mine signed over her unemployment check to me and wanted me to deposit it. She didnt have a bank account. It was Saturday so I took it to the bank's Atm and deposited it into savings. I withdrew the $100.00 the was made available right away. I expected the rest to be made available when the bank verified the check in 2-6 days. Three days later my ATM card was blocked and the money still wasntin my account. I called customer service and talked to a supervisor. She said all was fine and made the changes to the account. She told me that the $800.00 was available and could be withdrawn right away.
The next day I went to the ATM and withdrew the full $800.00. I thought all was fine. One week later my account was overdrawn $857.00. The bank said they dont accept third party checks and and couldnt verify it. They told me that the un-cashed check was being held by one of their departments outside the bank. I was told that the check would be returned, unstamped, when I deposited the $800.00 back into my account. The first thing that came to mind was that the bank screwed up and wanted me to fix it.
I was told by unemployment that the check had been honored. I was then told by the bank that they wanted a letterhead and a copy of the canceled check. Unemployment said the same thing. Now how is unemployment supposed to send a copy of the canceled check when the bank still has the uncashed and unstamped check? So now my bank account still sits overdrawn and the bank is threatening to send it to collections. Is there anyone higher up outside of Bank of America that can help? I really dont beleave that the bank can produce an unstamped check. I have no idea what to do next! Please help!!
