When opening a checking account with wachovia, I was pleased with everything when all was said and done. No big deal right? Boy was I wrong.
About 2 weeks later I recieved a letter from Wachovia.inside was a credit card from Wachovia and the letter thanked me for applying for it.interestingly enough I NEVER applied for any credit card.
I immediately called the 800 number on the back of the card and spoke with a customer service rep from MBNA (supposedly a partner of wachovia) and the rep told me they recieved my information electronically from a wachovia branch 2 weeks prior. The only thing I could link it to was when I opened my checking account.
I immediately closed the credit card account and went to the wachovia branch the following day. When I entered the branch I asked to speak with the person with whom I opened my account with. I explained the situation and the response I received was, "This is a great credit card. You must have great credit. I don't see the problem."
The problem was you violated my rights and applied for a credit card for me without my consent. According to her the computer automatically does it sometimes and it is in Wachovia's terms and conditions. I searched and searched for this clause and found nothing.
I was unaware that you no longer need an application nor a signature anymore to apply for credit cards for people. Now I must deal with a closed account on my credit report. If I wanted a credit card from Wachovia, I would have applied for one!!! All I wanted was a checking account.
