Complaint / Review
Wachovia
Ripoff

I opened an account with Wachovia some months ago. I deposited a check of over $6,000. The check went through and was added to the rest of the money in the available balance.

I spent part of the $6,000 and noticed that some of the money that I didn't spend was starting to disappear along with some other questionable charges.

Concerning the customer relationship management (CRM), when I called Wachovia, I got an operator who sounded like an older female senior citizen. When I approached her about the missing money, she never addressed the issue - she just said "whew, you spent a lot of money", as if to get in other people's business.

This is where customer-centric focus comes into play. Later, I talked to Lisa Shinn in the fraud department at Wachovia. Lisa Shinn said the check for $6,000 was fraudulent (how could it be fraudulent if the check went through and there was an available balance in the account?)

If the check was fraudulent it would have never showed up as an available balance that was able to be used. Lisa Shinn said that I now owed $6,000 on the account which seemed a little questionable.

I deposited two checks that were returned, that I believe were valid, one of the checks was for a substantial amount of money - I never saw the checks again; is someone at Wachovia trying to hide something?

I then received a statement saying the account was pending closed (now closed) and that the only amount owed was $77 - what happened to the outrageous amount of over $6,000 that Lisa Shinn was speaking of as being owed earlier?

Is this kind of foul customer service at Wachovia an indication of how it will be in the future? I hope not because I and others as well can always take our business elsewheres.

I never really agreed with Lisa Shinn's attitude. I strongly feel that Lisa Shinn is trying to blackball me. I think she reported something to Check Systems to make it difficult to open other bank accounts. I can't open an account with Wachovia for no real specific reason.

I think this playing games with other people's financial lives is what is going to drive other people away from Wachovia and make them question whether they should
deposit a large sum of money here or not. Can Wachovia really be trusted?

Sincerely,
E.B.

Re:
I sent a check to be deposited into the Wachovia
Bank account. 12/03/05 (Saturday) was the day it was
delivered. I sent it Priority Overnight on 12/02/05 by
DHL, Waybill#: 40566401142 to:

Wachovia Bank NA
4340 Innslake
Glen Allen VA, 23060
Attention: VA3289

Someone at Wachovia said that Wachovia Bank
received the check and it is being investigated but it
was never deposited into the account.

There is a negative balance of $77 on the account;
however, the check - if it is ever deposited - will
cover the negative balance and turn it into a positive
balance.

Wachovia is threatening to close the account
because of the negative $77 balance.

I would like for someone at Wachovia to stop
playing games and deposit the check into the account
or send it back to me and/or open another new account
at Wachovia.

Sincerely,
E.B.
