Having recommended credit unions in place of banks, in the past, I was concerned when I incurred a fee on my account with GOLDEN 1 CREDIT UNION.
I decided to test GOLDEN 1 CREDIT UNION. I allowed my account to settle, no activity, checks, ATM useage, or ACH transfers. There are no automatic deductions from this account. I balanced my account, to the penny.
I wrote a friend a check and he ran down and cashed it at HIS credit union, which is on the SAME system as GOLDEN 1 CREDIT UNION. This check did not show up on my account, as verified both on-line and by ATM balance for seven days (five business days).
Approximately one half hour before my automatic deposit for pay I went down to the ATM and withdrew just enough to leave a balance slightly insufficient to cover the check.
An hour later I accessed my account on-line and, yes you guessed it, there was an insufficient funds charge sandwiched in between my withdrawal and my automatic deposit.
Co-incidence? I think not. This is planned predatory banking. I paid $18.00 for this valuable information. You can believe what you want.
Credit Unions has sunk as low as regular banks in preying on their clients.
