Oxford Financial called me and stated I was pre-approved for a credit card with a $2000 limit w / 0% APR for 3 years to establish good credit. There was a one time activation fee of $249.00. I listened to the whole sales pitch and was told it was being recorded, which I agreed to. They even gave me a pin# and confirmation #.
At the very end of the call, I decided I did NOT want this. I stated very clearly I did not want this and they thanked me for my time and aknowledged my decision.
The phone call was on September 6. I was off in my checking and was going through my statements. They debited $249.00 from my account on September 19th. This was not authorized. There were numbers on the check they sent through. I called them. They have a recorded authorization of my voice stating I agreed to this. Of course they did not record the part where I said, "no, I'm going to decline on this offer."
Their 1-800 phone number does not exist anymore. I reported this to my bank yesterday, 10/6/05. I signed an affidavit, but they are doubtful they will be able to refund my $249. Their statement was, "If we are unable to recover the money, we cannot reimburse you." I thought that is why banks have insurance?! I bank with M&I Marshal Iisley Corp.
Needless to say, I do not want them to get away with this.
