I am a money concious college student who's parents have opened all thier accounts with Commerce Bank. I decided two years ago to open my account with them since my parents had nothing but good to say about them.
I had my account for about a year ang i had no complaints. Last August I decided to go to southeast missouri state university for my college education. At this point I decided that it would be better not to have a job the first semester to get the hang of things. I went ahead and got a personal loan to suffice for all my monetary needs. The first time that I started noticing a problem was the first time I had an overage charge. I checked my register on the internet because i really didn't have time to write everything down and since the technology was there why not use it. So I continued not really noticing how much these people were starting to take from me. It is advertised on television that regardless of when the actual transaction is made it will imediately show up online.
To make a long story short I have given away over $800 to this bank for purchases totaling no more than $75. This is false advertisement because the majority of all my transactions didn't show up until 2 to 3 days after they were made. And if there is not enough money in your account shouldn't your debit card be declined anyway? I didin't understand until my father got involved and told all of his transactions always show up immediately. That's when I realized that I have a STUDENT account. Then I started realizeing that Banks must think students aren't as concious about thier spending as adults are. So they think that we won't realize until after we have paid them hundreds in overages and had to close our accounts down because there is no way around them. I hope to god no one ever encounters this situation. It not only took my money it ruined my credit and I'm only 19 years old. I will never think of Commerce Bank as an actual Bank but as another rip off marketing scheem that feeds off of students who are trying to establish a reputable financial standing.
If any of you have ever encountered this problem with commerce feel free to contact me I want your stories because I feel almost robbed and if there is someone else who has had the same issue it would be nice to know that we aren't alone. I have literally gone into financial termoil because of this company and even though it is probably imposible i would love to see all the money I gave to them come back to me as well as reparations for the demolishment of my credit.
