I received a letter in the mail about 2 months ago from Merchants' Credit Guide Co. I thought it to be very weird because I worked in the mortgage business and have easy access to my clean credit report. I called them right away to settle this problem. I find out the "alleged" money that I owed was from GTE cell phone back in 1993. That would make me 19 years old.
Obvivously, the account wasn't mine but it had all my information including my SSID. I was told that I must write a letter to formally complain about my problem. I thought this was ridiculous but complied because I don't want a blimish on my credit report.
After 4 weeks, I still have not heard from them, so decided to call them. After giving my information, the lady says "yeah, you owes us money." I said I wrote a letter more than 4 weeks ago and formally complained. She says..."ahmm hum... You see... There are thousands of people in front of you, and it will probably be a few months before we can get to your letter... First come first serve... By the way, we going to charge you interests until we settle your case. I said that can't be legal and she said "yes it is and you can't do nothing about it.
I asked to speak with a supervisor and she said they all busy and transferred me to a voicemail. I left a message on the voicemail but doubt I will get a call back. I have already complained to BBB.
Anyone??? Please advise!!!
