I am writing because this harassment from this "collection agency" started on July 27th. When I had gotten home, my mother told me about this so called agency that called and the number they gave and she said that they were rude to her on the phone, asking all sorts of personal questions of when my birthdate was, my social security number and they insisted on a copy of my birth certificate. They wouldn't even tell her what they wanted.
So I had looked up this agency and found out they have a very bad record with the BBB. I had to file a police report against this agency, because they would not stop calling my house. The police got their detectives to dig around and call the agency to put a stop to the harassment. The agency told the police that I had owed this so called money to a hosting company, but they wouldn't even mention any names.
So I had to call the agency myself because they refused to talk to the detectives and they refused to tell my mother anything as well. I told them flat right out that they either better say why they are harassing me, or they were going to be in further trouble with the police because I had had enough of the harassment.
They gave me the name of this so called hosting company that they claimed I owed money to. It was Hosting Zoom, my former webhost, which I don't owe any money to them because I had cancelled the paypal subscription I had with them before it went into full effect. It was a trial subscription of the first 3 months was for $5 and thereafter it would be $194 for every 3 months after.
Not only did the agency tell me the name of the hosting company, they were also very rude to me, and I won't even bother to repeat the obscenities they said on the phone to me, while my mother was listening in on the other line. They hung up on me after they said how they were going to call the state attorney to have me arrested. Arrested for what? Defending myself. They were the ones that started it, calling my house, harassing my mother, acting unprofessionally and giving the detectives a hard time.
I had already put a fraud alert with the 3 credit bureaus the first day of the harassment. I already had a police report filed and I have a copy of it. I don't know what to do, other than to report them to the FTC for violations of the law. Someone told me that I am going to have to get a lawyer, and I can't afford a lawyer.
To those who may be reading this, if you can offer any useful advice, I would appreciate it.
